Medicine In Remote Areas 1 (MIRA 1)

A five-day course for personnel who are considering working in remote and hostile environments with a responsibility for Medical support. The course is certificated by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh as an approved training course. The course is designed for:

- Medical support personnel in the oil and gas industry;
- Medical Support personnel in the media industry;
- Expedition and exploration medical personnel;
- Mountain rescue/search and rescue personnel;
- Security industry/military medical support personnel;
- Medical support for humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

To attend this course you will have had to attended either our FPOS Intermediate course, or any other advanced first aid courses prior to booking on the Mira 1.

The course includes:

The course includes:

- Management of injuries from road traffic collisions, ballistic and violent assaults;
- Oxygen therapy;
- Intermediate & advanced airway management;
- Life threatening chest injuries & management;
- Circulatory system & haemorrhage control;
- Shock & fluid replacement regimes;
- Head injuries;
- Medical emergencies;
- Fractures, dislocations and burns;
- Environmental illnesses;
- Remote area & prolonged patient care.

The course is valid for three years with refresher training undertaken at the training venue in Hereford.
